About This Piece
The "Homecoming" duo (see Coming Home No. 2) was inspired by a visceral flashback. Mid-summer 2016 I was living in my van and had just made the trek from Maine to the west coast. After weeks of northeastern rain, sleeping in steamy Cabela's parking lots in middle America, and nearly a month in the Rocky Mountains, I finally made it back to my heart — the Pacific.
I pulled into an empty park somewhere on the Oregon coast, left my shoes on the dash, and ran through a tunnel of thick coastal brush lining a pathway straight to the sea.
Of course, I cried. Because I always do. And the feeling echoed through my entire body. "Home."
